Commander Joseph Dochnahl

Horseman, Volunteer, and Researcher of Spanish Cavalry

Introduction
The Town Newsletter of Oct 15 1977 described Doc (as he was generaly known) as follows:
Cdr. Joseph "Doc" Dochnahl served the Town as Treasurer of the Bicentennial Commission, member of the Pathway Committee for six years, member of the Historical Society, and member of the Ad Hoc Westwind Barn Committee. Retired from the Navy and a resident of the Hills for over eleven years, "Doc" also rode with the group of Californians re-enacting the Anza Trek as part of the Bicentennial Celebration for the Town.
He is perhaps best remembered for his participation in the Bicentennial Ride, during which he played the role of De Anza in riding his horse through the town wearing the same uniform as was thought to have been used during the original De Anza trek up the peninsula.

But in addition to this, he was well known as a volunteer and organiser for all sorts of equestrian-related matters in Town (including trail building) and a prominent member of both the Horsemens Association and The Trail Club.
