After (some members of) the Town Council floated an "alternative plan" to the Residents Initiative (one that could be enacted directly by a willing council and would supposedly do
a better job of protecting the Town's Open Spaces - and divert votes from the Residents Initiative) the President of the local Audubon Society weighed in with an opinion piece on the front
page of the Audubon Society's Newsletter.
The organisers of the Residents Iniative then took that article, re-printed it onto a mailing card (An 8½ by 11 piece of card stock folded double to conform the Post Office's bulk mailing requirements)
and mailed a copy to every address in town.
Subsequent informal surveys revealed that this single mailing had a huge impact on voters that resulted in this diversionary attempt by certain council members backfiring magnificently in convincing many doubters
to become supporters.
